Where did they get that idea?

It's funny you know - when we first revealed our colour scheme and our crest, we came in for a lot of criticism. We had people on the Arsenal.com message board having a dig, people on other message boards making snide comments, and we had people sending us messages through this site with all manner of abuse. The general theme was "Black and gold? Black and yellow? That's got nothing to do with Arsenal!".
It's interesting to discover that all of a sudden, Arsenal have brought out black scarves and beanie hats with a gold crest. They've got a black and gold umbrella, and apparently there's other merchandise following this theme. Now forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't there an Arsenal supporters group that has its own black and gold scarves and beanie hats? Pin badges with the black and gold crest?
I've always thought and said that the Arsenal Marketing Department lacks nous. That they're followers; always reactive instead of proactive. The recent recruits they've made have impressive global company names on their CVs, and that's what the club were after when recruiting. All about show, don't worry that the new hires lack the knowledge of what it means to be Arsenal, what this club is about, and how the hardcore support feels. No common sense in terms of branding and marketing.
"What's this got to do with you wanting to get rid of Wenger?" I can hear our detractors crying out. And that's the thing. This movement has never been about getting rid of Arsene Wenger. It's about how our club is run, how the Board has no clue about the feelings of the common fan, a lack of knowledge about our traditions and how we should blend tradition with vision. There are many areas that need addressing, and while there are people frustrated with issues on the pitch, we feel that the problems are a lot deeper in the foundations of our club.
What will the genius Marketing Department at Arsenal think of next, I wonder? Making a donation to Help For Heroes for every black and gold piece of merchandise they sell?
HH.
