Show your support at the BSM walk
28 November 2012
“I know some of the Black Scarf people and they are GENUINE Arsenal fans. They LOVE the club, but they hate what they believe the club has become - just a corporate entity, concerned only with the bottom line and figures… not what supporting your club is all about.”
Those words came from Martin Lipton, Chief Football Writer of The Mirror on the Sky Sports show Sunday Supplement. Martin is spot on with those words. We ARE genuine Arsenal fans, we DO love the club. It’s our love for the club which prompted the formation of this group, as many fans were feeling disenfranchised by a Board concerned only with quick money over loyalty.
This Saturday we hold our walk to the ground, giving Arsenal fans the chance to voice their disapproval at the way they feel they've been treated by the Board. Some outside of this group have branded it a protest, which is wide of the mark. As well as voicing disapproval of the Board’s actions during the walk, at the end we want to celebrate the fact that we are all fans of The Arsenal.
Show your support
You may be aware that at the Capital One Cup tie with Coventry City, we suggested that BSM members buy tickets in adjacent blocks in the stadium to generate a great show of support for the young Arsenal team on the pitch. Following the game we received a lot of positive messages from people who’d either purposely bought seats in those sections, or people who’d been there anyway and loved joining in the songs and the support generated.
Saturday is another chance to show your love of The Arsenal.
We’re asking that if you have an Arsenal flag, bring it along with you. When we get to The Armoury our vision is that various Arsenal flags are hung from the railing above The Armoury and we’ll have a period of songs “In praise of The AFC”. At the end of the day we’re all Arsenal and it’s the club we love. The Arsenal is bigger than anyone and that’s what we fell in love with, so join in by showing your support.
Again, we remind people that this Saturday isn’t about the manager. If you want to protest against Arsene Wenger that’s your choice and feel free to do so, on another day and separate from this event. Some people seem adamant that this walk is or will become a protest against our manager and that’s what the press will seize upon, but we’ve gone to great lengths to try and ensure this doesn't happen.
Finally, if you’ve got a ticket for the game, go into the stadium after the walk and get behind the team. It’s what every Arsenal fan should do at games; support the players for the entire match.
