Demonstration at Premier League and Football League
5 June 2013
Some Arsenal fans may be aware of the Liverpool Supporters' Union, Spirit Of Shankly. Back in January, we helped to promote their protests over ticket pricing, including the price of tickets at away games. When Liverpool came to play at Emirates Stadium, Spirit Of Shankly handed out leaflets highlighting the £62 costs of their tickets for that game.
We have since attended meetings with the Football Supporters Federation to discuss their "Twenty is plenty" campaign to get a set price for all away fans at Premier League matches. As fans of The Arsenal, we are charged high prices at away games so while our ticket prices for the 'glamour' games at Emirates are on the high side, other clubs should not be let off the hook. Fans have to stand up to those running our game and make them realise that loyal supporters should never be ripped off, because without fans at the games, there is no game.
On 19 June, Spirit Of Shankly will be leading a demonstration at the headquarters of the Premier League and Football League in Gloucester Place. Supporters of all clubs are urged to join the demonstration.
Details taken from the Spirit Of Shankly website:
"Meeting at 1.30pm at Regents Park, supporters will march to Gloucester Place for 2pm to demonstrate against the spiralling cost of attending football matches and the continued refusal of football authorities to address fans’ concerns on the day the Premier League fixtures for 2013/2014 are released.
Cross-club support from all levels of the game has already been evidenced at regional meetings and now is the time for fans to put aside team rivalries and get behind a campaign which affects all supporters. We would encourage everyone to spread the word about the demonstration, and encourage all supporters to attend in a show of strength. For too long we have sat back while the football cartel has continued to profit."
We encourage all Arsenal supporters to join this demonstration and show your disapproval at the ever-spiralling costs of attending football matches. With supporters of all clubs putting aside rivalries and working together, a united voice will be aimed at those running our game. For too long the loyal football supporter has been leaned upon and taken advantage of. It's time for this to end.
