Arsenal give an update on the ticketing review
3 February 2012
After the uproar caused by the club last May when it announced the 6.5% increases to season ticket prices, a statement was published on Arsenal.com outlining the reasons behind the decision. This article also stated that “Mr Gazidis has also pledged to undertake an entire review of the approach to ticketing at the stadium”.
We're now 9 months down the line and there's been no update on the progress of this review. It's something that we've been pushing for, because we feel if it's left unchallenged the club has more opportunity of ducking the issue.
Our followers will know that we met with the club at the end of November and submitted a number of suggestions around ticketing and seating, and we offered to work with them on these as we're passionate about achieving positive results for Arsenal fans.
A couple of days ago we published an update we'd had from Ivan Gazidis which mentioned that the review was taking place. However, no further detail was given so we pushed back on this, to get answers on when the results would be made available.
We've received a response from Arsenal which says that the review is being undertaken by "senior members of the marketing team who are working through the complexities of ticketing across the stadium". The update goes on to say "The outcome of this work will be publicised towards the end of the season".
While we find it somewhat strange that the Marketing team at the club has the task of conducting a review of ticketing, we can only hope that the interests of matchgoing fans are put before pound notes. However as Ivan Gazidis pretty much said to us, the club has to ensure that while the club looks after fans, income needs to be maintained.
We've pushed hard on the subject of ticketing and seating, and we're at the point where we've pretty much done all we can and made our feelings known to Arsenal in no uncertain terms. It's now a case of wait and see, and we have to have faith that the club will do the right thing.
Up the Gunners.
